What OpenAI claims
Proves the rational-homology form of Quillen's conjecture for every finite group and every prime. If the largest normal p-subgroup of G is trivial, the poset of nontrivial elementary abelian p-subgroups has nonzero augmented reduced rational homology and is therefore not contractible.

Rational homology and Quillen's conjecture
OpenAI's abstract We prove Quillen's conjecture for all finite groups and all primes. More precisely, if a finite group G has trivial largest normal p-subgroup Op(G), then the poset of nontrivial elementary abelian p-subgroups of G has nonzero augmented reduced rational homology. This establishes the stronger rational-homology form of the conjecture.
Status
Preprint. The paper has not been independently reviewed. Treat the result as OpenAI's claim until other mathematicians have checked it. If a video exists, it illustrates the statement; it is not the proof.
Quick answers
- Is it proven?
- Not independently yet. OpenAI posted a preprint on 24 September 2026; it has not been peer reviewed, so treat the result as OpenAI's claim until other mathematicians have checked it.
- What exactly does OpenAI claim?
- Proves the rational-homology form of Quillen's conjecture for every finite group and every prime. If the largest normal p-subgroup of G is trivial, the poset of nontrivial elementary abelian p-subgroups has nonzero augmented reduced rational homology and is therefore not contractible.
- Where is the proof?
- In the paper, Rational homology and Quillen's conjecture (PDF).
- Is there a video?
- Yes, on YouTube (29:20, chapter 16).
