About this video

Pi vs 3.14, visualized with two rotating arms. A rational ratio repeats exactly; an irrational ratio has no exact period.

Gold uses 3.14 = 157/50, so its complete motion loops after 50 turns of the first arm. Cyan uses pi: the full motion has no exact period. The paths can still cross themselves.

The curve is z(theta) = exp(i theta) + exp(i r theta). Both instruments use the same first-arm phase progression. Original Three.js animation and original music.
